While Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has an incredibly contrived plot, and extremely predictable it (so far) doesn’t lean into extremely abusive/racist stereotypes. It’s actually quite fun if you turn your brain off and don’t question some of the plot points too closely. And the main character is actually quite endearing (i.e. she actually find clever ways to combat her inexperience and is actually nice). The love interest isn’t too bad right now. I can dig it. A writer can always grow and improve their writing, so bad writing is not always the issue. And hopefully with how well I’m assuming this book is doing, the writing will probably improve. I know the bar is in hell, but the writing isn’t leaning into some racist/abusive territory so far. It helps that the main character isn’t so bad right now. I think I’ll stick with it.
